Politics Gets Personal: How Dating Apps Are Matching Users by Beliefs

May 04, 20251 min read

As the 2024 election nears, dating apps are leaning into politics—offering new tools to help users connect based on their values. Tinder’s “Take Action Center” lets users display voting stickers like “Hot People Vote,” while partnering with Vote.org to promote voter awareness. OkCupid added 12 political matching questions to help users align over deal-breaker issues, reflecting how politics have increasingly entered not just conversations with friends and family, but romantic connections too.

On the conservative side, The Right Stuff—launched in 2022—offers politically aligned prompts while downplaying overt partisanship. With over 70,000 active users, it shows that shared values are often non-negotiable for today’s singles. Raquel Debono, Director of Marketing, notes that while the app isn’t political first, it reflects a growing truth: political identity plays a key role in modern dating, whether you're swiping right on a sticker or looking for a like-minded partner.
